Hey all..i am a high school student looking to pursue a career in animation with a good company such as disney, pixar, dreamworks, or something of the sort…i have found one college that offers internships for those places but i am unsure if it is the right college…i would like to know what colleges are best for animation and what might help me achieve my goal…ty!
What might help you achieve your goal–> reading all the links on this blog–> here–> http://aperturequiet.blogspot.com/2007/01/john-ks-animation-school-revisited.html
And then read the comments to all the links on said provided blog.
People do a lot of bashing on colleges. They predominately relate their experiences at Animation and Art colleges. There’s lots of f***ed up and useless professors (as it seems : ).
Also, go to www.pixar.com, and read the FAQ. Especially for the question that says, What Do You Look For in an Animator (something like that). Then follow through, study acting. The site has info. for internships, like you related. It would be helpful to you if you study all the jobs in the Animation field, as provided there, and read the profiles/biographies of the animators, as provided there.
Also realize that by regulating yourself to one field, like say, ANIMATION, you are blocking off all your other interests, and as it seems you are still figuring out what your interests are (or you would have already done all this searching), that doesn’t seem like a very good idea. So just go to the library and check out all the books on subjects you like. Everything, and I mean everything, will work towards your goal of being a skilled animator. If you still want to be one after you read all those books, that is.
